III. Outreach Initiatives

 

Name of Outreach Activity

Description of Activity

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Each year during the applicable period, students participated in the internship program by working in the News Department, the Promotion Department, and the Production Department. The schools that these students attend( ed ) are Abilene Christian University , Texas Tech University , and East Texas Baptist University . Interns in the News Department developed news writing skills, learned to develop news story packages, and video editing. The students in the Production Dept learn the basics of camera work, editing, directing the news cast, and other items related to the on-air production of a news cast. The students in the Promotion Department learn the basics of television advertising, editing, and internet design.

JOB FAIR

During the applicable period, Abilene-Sweetwater Broadcasting Co. participated in the Abilene Area Job Fair. The both was set up and manned by David Caldwell, Promotions Manager and Susan Acuna , Production Manager. The Abilene Area Job Fair was open to the public free of charge. All job openings were posted, and resumes and applications were accepted.

JOB FAIR

During the applicable period, Abilene-Sweetwater Broadcasting Co. participated in the Texas State Technological College Job/Career Fair in Sweetwater , TX . The booth was manned by David Caldwell, Promotions Manager and Eddie Sides , Controller. This job fair focused on TSTC graduates and other graduates from the area. Flyers describing all job openings were distributed and applications were taken.

Job Fair

During the applicable period, Abilene-Sweetwater Broadcasting Co. participated in the Abilene Business Expo. The Expo was held at the Abilene Civic Center . Among the employees manning the booth were David Caldwell, Promotions Manager, and Jackie Rutledge, General Manager. A list of all job openings was available, and applications and resumes were accepted.
