ABILENE, Texas -

A 44-year-old Abilene man died in a motorcycle accident around 9:48 p.m. on Friday, according to The Abilene Police Department.

The driver of the motorcycle, Steven Ray Bishop, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace.

The motorcycle crash occurred in the 1400 block of East South 27th Street. Emergency responders arrived on scene and found a white male subject lying next to a motorcycle in the roadway.

It appeared the operator of the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Loop 322’s service road where the service road and East South 27th Street converge and lost control
while attempting to turn right onto East South 27th.

The motorcycle crossed a lane of traffic and struck a guardrail before coming to rest a short distance away.

Bishop was not wearing a helmet.

This crash is currently under investigation by officers of the Abilene Police Department Traffic Division.

Police do not know if alcohol or drug use may have been a contributing factor
in this crash.
