"Statistically during the fourth of July, things almost quadruple as far as fire related stuff due to fireworks." Ricky Thomas, Potosi Fire Dept. said. 

With these dry conditions, scorching temperatures and high winds we are bound to see some fires strike up.

Although we can't do much to control the weather, we can control the amount of fires that are taking place. 

Checking for things like dragging metal objects on your car, the length of your grass and even putting out your cigarette are all ways of preventing wildfires.

Another way to be sure you are protecting yourself and the Big Country is taking extreme precaution when setting off fireworks.

We are in the fireworks season with the fourth of July right around the corner and making sure you are being extra safe will save a lot of problems for local fire fighters.
