A New York man "forgot" about his 1-year-old son, leaving the boy in a freezing car for eight hours.

The man was supposed to drop the boy off at day care last week, but apparently forgot and went to work instead, police in the Albany suburb of Colonie told The Associated Press.

He only realized his mistake once he got a phone call from his wife at about 4 p.m.

The man called an ambulance, and the boy was checked out at a local hospital and released, Albany TV station WTEN reported.

He suffered no injuries despite temperatures that didn't top 15 degrees.

The father had not been charged as of Friday, according to the AP.
