Boehner to kick off get-out-the-vote bus tour in Ohio this weekend
House Speaker John Boehner will join presidential candidate Mitt Romney and vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan in Boehner's home town of West Chester, Ohio at a rally Friday night, before heading off on a three day statewide bus tour to boost GOP turnout in the final weekend before Tuesday's election.
On Saturday morning Boehner will board the same bus he's ridden for his regular pre-election tour since the 1990's. The bus, originally owned by one of Boehner's neighbors, is wrapped in his signature "Team Boehner" green logo, and will travel around the state hitting more than a dozen towns in three days.
Boehner will rally voters in GOP strongholds like Butler County, and Lima where the goal is to make sure the Republican base comes out in big numbers for Romney, but he'll also visit some key swing areas like Wadsworth and Wooster. After redistricting reshaped congressional districts GOP freshman Jim Renacci is facing Democratic Rep Betty Sutton in one of the mostly negative and hotly contested House races in the country outside Cleveland. Boehner will hold a rally with Renacci. He'll also visit Niles in Trumbell County in the north east corner of the state, which voted overwhelmingly for President Obama in 2008.
Unlike Boehner's bus tour two years ago when the then -GOP leader was focused on defeating Democrats to regain the majority and get the Speaker's gavel, this year's trip is all about presidential politics.
According to Boehner's political aide, the Speaker will focus his message, as he has for months, on the criticizing President Obama's economic agenda.
The speaker has aimed his efforts this year stumping and fundraising for House GOP candidates, many in states like Illinois, New York and California where Obama will easily carry the state. But he's also campaigned for for the Romney-Ryan ticket in competitive states such as New Hampshire, Colorado, Iowa, and North Carolina in the last month.
