Be sure to scoop your dog's poop in the small Spanish town of Brunete. Otherwise, it'll end up in your mailbox.

Council members in the community 20 miles west of Madrid came up with the idea of returning improperly discarded dog poop via mail as a way to crack down on irresponsible dog owners, according to The Telegraph.

During one week in February, a team of 20 volunteers patroled the town streets on the lookout for offenders.

They struck up a casual conversation, got the dog's name, and found the name of the owner through the town's registered pet database, according to Europa Press TV.

Volunteers then scooped up the excrement, packaged it in a box branded with the town hall insignia and marked "Lost Property" and sent it to the offender's home address.

In that one week, they made 147 "express poop" deliveries and cut the amount of dog mess found on its streets and sidewalks by 70 percent.

The town won the "Sol de Plata" award for the campaign at the Ibero-American Advertising Festival.
