About 21,500 customers lost power immediately following Monday’s storm and at least 40 utility poles were either knocked down or damaged, according to AEP Texas Community Relations Manager Greg Blair.
AEP Texas called in all available local service crews and crews from surrounding areas to respond to outages caused by high winds, rain and lightning that swept through Abilene.
As of 9 p.m., Blair said it was too early to estimate the amount of time needed to restore service to all customers affected by the winds.
This morning at least 1,415 customers remain without power as AEP continue to work to restore electricity to those still affected by the outage.
As more information becomes available, AEP Texas will provide updates on the status of the restoration efforts.
