MCALLEN, Texas (AP) -

A flying state trooper opened fire on a vehicle filled with suspected illegal immigrants, killing two people in the vehicle and wounding another.

Katherine Cesinger of the Texas Department of Public Safety said the DPS aircraft was called to help after a state game warden tried and failed to stop the vehicle Thursday afternoon.
The trooper, who is a sharpshooter, opened fire on the vehicle -- as Cesinger says DPS policy allows. The vehicle stopped on Farm Road 2221, seven miles north of La Joya and about 70 miles northwest of Brownsville.
Cesinger said three wounded suspects were found inside, two of whom died. Six others were detained, and a search is on for others who fled.
