Taylor County Commissioners Could Call For Burn Ban

Whether the Taylor County Commissioners call for a burn ban is dependent on the moisture in the soil that's measured by the Texas Forest Service's Keetch-Byram Drought Index.

The Commissioner's typically put a burn ban in place when the KBDI for the county reaches over 500.

Right now Taylor County is on the cusp – with a number between 400 and 500

We all know when the grass and soil is dry enough something as small as a match or cigarette butt can start a large grassfire. Campsite owners in the area told KTXS that even though there's currently no burn ban in place they aren't taking any chances and warn people to monitor their campfires.

Some campsite owners we spoke to are saying the grass and brush is getting so out of control, they think there should be a controlled burn, which means fire fighters would come out and burn off some of the brush.

Taylor County Commissioners will meet this Tuesday morning.

Watch KTXS Tuesday night to see what commissioners decided.
