POSTED: 3:44 pm CDT September 6, 2010UPDATED: 9:07 pm CDT September 6, 2010ABILENE, Texas -- Tropical Storm Hermine has made landfall in extreme northeastern Mexico late Monday night. This quickly-developing storm formed in the western Gulf of Mexico during past 24 hours. The storm's weakening remains are expected to move through much of our region Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon.
The major concern for us will be very heavy rainfall that could cause flooding. Two to four inches of rainfall are expected with higher amounts possible from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service has Flash Flood Watches for our area for Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Our winds are forecast to be in 20 to 30 mph range with the passage of this system.
There will also be a slight risk of thunderstorms that could produce weak, short-lived tornadoes for areas mainly east of Abilene.
The system should be pretty much north and east of our area by Thursday morning.
