ABILENE, Texas -- Shopping online can score you good deals, but if you're not careful you can get scammed easily. One Abilene woman lost over $2,000 for a so-called good deal.

Log onto Ebay or Craigslist and the deals are everywhere. One Abilene woman ended up wire transferring $2,400 to an address in Little Rock, Arkansas.

APD Detective John Clark said, "This was a total bogus ad from the get go. It seemed like such a good deal. She's young and inexperienced was not familiar with the way stuff happens." Clark has used Ebay before to sell stuff, but warns there are signs every shopper should watch out for.

He explained, "When they get out of the actual auction site and ask you to do things are not within the confines of the auction site that oughtta be a dead give away." Detective Clark says if you stay within Ebay you are protected by Ebay policies and have a smaller chance of being scammed.

Clark says this scam is just a different variation of one's they've seen in the past. The victim will probably not get their money back. Once that money is wired transferred it's pretty much gone.
