The Abilene City Council approved its budget for 2010-2011 at Thursday morning's City Council meeting. Property taxes will stay the same, instead of increasing almost half a cent, like the Council had proposed.

It was suggested that the City delay employee raises to cover the $236,200 they would have gotten from the property tax hike.

Councilman Robert Briley instead suggested the City dip into its $16 million fund reserve to cover the cost.

In other Council news, members approved the land transfer from the City to Abilene ISD and also approved a road construction project for South 14th Street.
