ABILENE, Texas -

The WTU Christmas parade took over the streets downtown Abilene Tuesday. Thousands of people came out to see the floats, the participants and of course the star of the show, Santa.

There were more than 120 floats in this year’s parade. It was the 25th year for the parade and this year there were more people watching the action than there were last year. Why?

"Usually we’re wrapped up in blankets and freezing to death but not this year," said Mariam Whitehurst who attends the parade every year.

The parade starts off December the right way and gets people in the Abilene area ready for the holidays.

"The weather's been so warm we need something to kick start us into the spirit of the season," said Maryjane Moore who said this is her first year at the parade.

From cheerleaders to horses, one-by-one the floats went by and one float even made it snow.

Of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without a tree. After the parade it was time to light up the Christmas tree at the Civic Center.
