POSTED: 11:39 am CDT October 6, 2011UPDATED: 5:42 pm CDT October 6, 2011ABILENE, Texas -- The devices Steve Jobs that created are a major part of the educational process at Abilene Christian University.
On Thursday, ACU kicked off a conference on mobile learning featuring John Couch, Apple's worldwide vice president of education. And at everyone's fingertips: the technology to connect them to the world, brought to us by the mind of Steve Jobs.
"At ACU we use these devices that Steve created a lot – we use them to change the lives of students, to change the lives of people.... The world wouldn't be the same," said George Saltsman, executive director of ACU's Adams Center for Teaching and Learning.
He said Apple has changed his entire educational experience.
"When I came to school in 1985, I remember sitting at a Mac for the first time and being absolutely amazed at the kinds of things that I could do. It really inspired me to do a lot in graphics and design that I never thought that I could do," Saltsman said.
Students today at ACU are given apple products – iPhones and iPads – as a major part of their educational experience. It's something that university leaders said they believe will set their graduates apart now and into the future.
"Apple right now makes some wonderful products that helps us and our students learn in very creative ways.... As long as Apple continues to make products that help us teach our students better, we'll continue to look at their products and use them heavily," said Kevin Roberts, ACU's director of information and planning.
ACU was one of the first schools in the country to partner with Apple and use iPads in class.
