Three young men were arrested by the Taylor County Sheriff's Department on aggravated robbery charges Sunday evening after allegedly threatening an elderly couple at gunpoint.
Arrested and charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery were Philip Lee Bacon, 20; Thomas Jerald Smart, 19, and Brayton Zane Dorko, 18. Bacon and Smart are each being held at the Taylor County Jail on a $50,000 bond. Dorko is being held on a $35,000 bond.
The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at a residence in rural south Taylor County, about 10 miles west of Ovalo on County Road 195.
According to a department news release, the three suspects had broken into the couple's vehicle and stolen a gun when they were confronted by the elderly couple.
While the elderly man was with the suspects, the elderly woman stepped away and called a family friend, authorities say.
When the couple told them the Taylor County Sheriff's Office had been called, the suspects pointed two weapons – one they had brought with them and the stolen gun – at the couple and told them to call back and cancel the call or they would kill the couple.
According to the release, Detective John Graham – who lived about a mile away – arrived quickly and took all three men into custody. The men are also suspected of other burglaries in the surrounding area. Two of the suspects were currently on probation.
Authorities say additional charges may be filed against the suspects and that two more suspects might be involved.
The investigation continues.
