ABILENE, Texas -

Today is 7-Eleven's 85th birthday and they are celebrating by giving away free Slurpees.

You can go into participating 7-Eleven stores today between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and get a free 7.11 ounce Slurpee.

The convenience store has been selling Slurpees for 45 years. They celebrate the birthdays of both the drink and the store on July 11, or 7/11. The actual Free Slurpee Day originated in 2002.

"7-Eleven Day, or Free Slurpee Day, gets bigger and more popular every year," 7-Eleven President Joe DePinto said. He expects they will give away seven million Slurpees today, up two million from last year.

Big fans of the frozen beverage are encouraged to dress up for the event. The company has created downloadable birthday attire that includes tiny bow ties, hair bows, and two sizes of party hats. They can be found at www.splurpee.com/rewards.
