Police have arrested eight people who were protesting a judge's decision allowing demolition to continue of a landmark San Antonio building.
The 1955 Univision building is the birthplace of Spanish-language broadcasting in the nation. The protesters were arrested Tuesday trying to stall demolition work that's being done to make way for a $55 million apartment complex near the southern stretch of the River Walk.
The San Antonio Express-News reports a district court judge Tuesday dissolved a temporary restraining order that had halted the demolition. Groups such as the San Antonio Conservation Society had fought for months to have the building labeled as historic. They argue the city's process for designating a structure as historic is flawed.
City attorneys contend the groups have no legal standing to stop the project.
