ABILENE, Texas -

This time last year much of Texas was in the thick of an extreme drought.

Wildfires and record temperatures ruined summer for many people.

The official start is June 20, and already everywhere you turn, people are out enjoying what's been a much cooler year so far.

"Last year you either stayed inside or in the pool and even the pools were hot," said Kassie Ivanoski, who was out at the batting cages with her daughters Tuesday.

The cooler temperatures aren't the only thing bringing people out.

The recent rain has been greening everything up and many are heading out to the Abilene State Park to get back to nature.

For the most part, many seem happy to just get outside to enjoy activities that may have been out of the question last summer, like a day on the lake or at the mini-golf course.
