ABILENE, Texas -

The second-annual 5K Run For Wishes, benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, takes place this Saturday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. with the Intramural Softball Field along Campus Court serving as the start/finish line. The event, which is organized by Abilene Christian's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), includes a registration fee of $15.

The Abilene community raised $7908.34 at last year's inaugural race for three-year-old Wish Kid Tatum Kate Flaming, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in July 2009.

"Being able to play a small part in the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, and helping to make a child's wish come true, is something that I will take with me for the rest of my life," said SAAC president David Pillen. "I take great pride in participating in this event."

All pre-registered runners receive a Red Mango gift voucher, race t-shirt, certificate from Road ID, plus a 14 day pass to Hendrick Health Club, among other goodies.

The top three male and female finishers will win a prize package from D1 Abilene & Chike Nutrition.

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation?s mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.
