ABILENE, Texas -

25-year-old Grayson Allred is making a big change but not for fashion.

Grayson leaves next week for a month long research expedition in Ecuador.

"We're going to be up in the Andes Mountains,  at about 8,000 feet. It's going to be out great living out in the jungle," said Grayson.

After deciding to cut his hair for the trip, Grayon had the idea to help someone else and donate his hair to Locks of Love.

We Care Hair braided his long locks and then it was time for the trim.

In just under 20 minutes, two years of long hair was gone and on the way to help children with cancer.

After more cutting and buzzing, Grayson had a new look.

The Biology major at ACU said his hair hasn't been this short since his days in the Army National Guard.

"I feel a breeze," said Grayson. "I'm glad I'm donating it."
