Abilene ISD's food service department was recently recognized for its healthy menu.

The head of the district's nutrition department, Joann Knox, received the award at a presentation ceremony in Denver.

Along with the "Gillespie" glass trophy, a $1,000 gift was also presented to the district.

Established last year, the "Making Healthy Happen" award recognizes food service organizations that make great strides to provide healthier menus.

This is the first time Abilene ISD has received the award.
