AISD Board Meeting Recap: Davidson doesn't submit resignation as expected
It was expected that Dr. Shane Davidson would submit his formal resignation at the Abilene ISD board meeting tonight, but it didn't happen.
Last month, Davidson announced that he has accepted a new job in Indiana after serving on the board for only six months.
"I have not issued my formal resignation as I'm still planning my transition to my new role at the University of Evansville," said Dr. Davidson.
The school board has yet to decide how they will fill Davidson's unexpired term, however one citizen spoke out at Monday's meeting and voiced his opinion against appointing someone to that seat.
"I would rather support someone that's elected."
In other business the board approved the Bonham Construction Project. The new free standing building will have eight classrooms and connect to the main campus by covered walkways.
The Bonham project is expected to cost close to 1.3 million dollars. It's being completed funded through 2004 bond money.
Also, six deserving high school students received National Merit Commendations: Carolyn Casada, AHS; Joel Childers, AHS; Margaret Patton, AHS; Christopher Werthiem, AHS; David Dantzler, ATEMS and Hannah Lantrip, CHS.
To receive the award, they all scored at least a 200 on the required exam. Each one will receive $500 as part of the advanced placement program.
