ABILENE, Texas -

A few teachers at a local elementary school are doing what they can to make their classrooms unique for their students. Classrooms at Lee Elementary got quite a makeover this year and teachers said it's all for the kids.

"I want them to come in and be excited. I like to have open space so that the kids can make it theirs," said first-grade teacher Katie Hathorn.

Over the last week teachers put the finishing touches on their classrooms in preparation for the 2012 school year.

"I think they get excited about it and kids they're not as excited about white walls and white floors as they are about 'we have leaves in our classroom and animals and fun bright colors,'" said kindergarten teacher Jennifer Brewer.

Teachers at Lee Elementary said details in the classroom can make a big difference for the kids.

"That makes them excited to come to school and excited to learn and makes it a place that they want to be instead of a place that they have to be everyday," said Brewer.
