Abilene Parks and Recreation Board postpones recommendation on sale of Kirby Park
The Abilene Parks and Recreation Board decided Tuesday to table the discussion of the potential sale of once-popular Kirby Park.
The city recently received an offer for the park, which caused city officials to consider putting the park up for a bid. The city have declined to reveal who made the original offer.
Parks and Recreation Board members met Tuesday morning to discuss their recommendation to city council about selling the park but instead decided to postpone it.
Director of Community Services James Childers said the board has not yet decided when they will make a recommendation. Previously, Childers said city officials did not see any reason not to part with the park.
If the board recommends that city council move forward with the sale and city council in turn approves it, voters will ultimately decide whether to put the park up for a bid.
