From Abilene Police Department spokesman George Spindler:
At about 5:35 p.m. Monday, Officer Kurt Thomas responded to a check welfare call in the 5800 block of Hartford Street. APD Dispatch had been notified by a concerned citizen about a male subject slumped over inside a vehicle. Officer Mary Guitar assisted on this call. Officer Guitar located the male subject inside the described vehicle that was parked on a public street. Officer Guitar contacted the subject and observed that the subject displayed indicators of intoxication and had difficulty staying alert while talking with Officer Guitar. The subject did not have anyone that could come and take responsibility for his care. The subject was arrested and searched. During the search, medications for which a prescription is required were located in the subjects possession, but the subject could not produce a prescription. The subject was arrested for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam) and for public intoxication.
At about 10:05 p.m. Monday, Officer Brady Broyles was headed to a call for service when he observed a motorist run a stop sign in the 800 block of Mulberry Street. Officer Broyles notified APD Dispatch and contacted the motorist in the 600 block of Mulberry Street. Officer Broyles contacted the female driver and observed that the she was very nervous. When asked to produce her driver’s license, she handed Officer Broyles her debit card. During this investigation, Officer Broyles observed open containers within the vehicle. The driver conducted standard field sobriety tests which she failed. Officer Broyles confirmed that those open containers contained different quantities of alcohol. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor DWI with open container. A blood sample was taken as part of this investigation. This investigation continues.
At about 11:45 p.m. Monday, Officer Mary Guitar contacted a female subject on the premises of a business in the 2800 block of S. 1st Street. Officer Guitar recognized the subject as person that had been previously warned not to return to said premises. A records check confirmed that the subject had been warned not to return to the property or face criminal charges for trespassing. A representative of the business was contacted during this investigation. The female subject was arrested for misdemeanor criminal trespass.
