A Lawn man was arrested Monday on theft charges for stealing a bottle of Delsym cough syrup from a south side grocery store in Abilene.

According to police, a loss prevention officer at United Supermarkets on Buffalo Gap Road observed 20-year-old Matthew Scott Wyatt take the bottle from a shelf, remove the packaging and place it in his pocket.

Police said Wyatt then passed all cash registers and tried to leave the store. When contacted by the loss prevention officer, police said Wyatt tried to grab his knife.

According to police, the loss prevention officer was able to grab the knife from Wyatt, who then tried to run. Wyatt became cooperative once arrested.

Police said Wyatt has a previous conviction for theft. He was arrested for class B theft, enhanced.

The Delsym bottle was valued at $10.69.
