Abilene Police: Man holding handsaw joins woman in robbing business
From Abilene Police Department spokesman George Spindler:
About 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a robbery that had just occurred at a business in the 3000 block of Pine Street. APD dispatch was notified by a store employee that the robbery had just occurred and that two unknown suspects, a female and a male, demanded money after going inside the store. Officers arrived to find the suspects had fled the scene and they were not located during the preliminary investigation. The employee reported seeing the male holding a handsaw during the threatening altercation and some monies were taken. No injuries were reported and Officer Brian Poynor took a report for Aggravated Robbery. This investigation continues.
At about 6 p.m. Monday, Officers Katie Snell and Jake Weise responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 4300 block of Buffalo Gap Road. APD dispatch had been notified by a store employee that an alleged theft had taken place and that a suspect was detained. The officers contacted the involved parties, including two female suspects. The preliminary investigation revealed that the two suspects had been observed selecting merchandise and removing the tags from the items before concealing them. The suspects passed all points of sale without paying for said merchandise. The suspects were contacted by loss prevention personnel when they exited the store. Approximately $338 in merchandise was recovered. Both suspects were arrested for misdemeanor Theft.
At about 9:25 p.m. Monday, Officer Jonathan Merrick contacted a motorist in the 1700 block of Bridge Avenue for a traffic violation. Officer Merrick contacted the male driver and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officer Merrick also observed marijuana in plain sight inside the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and approximately 57.6 grams of marijuana was located in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.
