ABILENE, Texas -

An Abilene man was arrested Monday in connection with the aggravated robbery of a homeless man.

According to police, 19-year-old Lawrence Billups confronted the 24-year-old man outside a convenience store in the 1300 block of South 14th Street around 9:55 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Billups pointed a gun at the man and took his backpack and cell phone before he fled on foot.

Around 7:40 p.m., police were called out to a fight near South 14th and Butternut Streets.

According to police, Billups was involved and fled the scene when they arrived.

Officers caught up with him in the 1200 block of Elm Street. They said he had a gun on him that resembled the one used in the robbery.

Billups was taken in for questioning and was arrested for aggravated robbery and for evading arrest.

His bond is set at $150,000.

Police were able to recover the stolen property.
