From Abilene Police spokesman George Spindler:
At about 11:35 p.m. Thursday, Officer Chris Jennings observed two motorists, one on a motorcycle and one in a 4-door sedan, driving at a high rate of speed while traveling westbound through the intersection of E.S. 11th and Judge Ely Boulevard. Officer Jennings paced both vehicles as they were speeding side-by-side and stopped them in the vicinity of the 300 block of E.S. 11th. Officer Jennings investigation discovered that both drivers knew each other from work and were participating in a speed competition. Officer Jennings paced the motorists going 70 miles per hour. Both drivers were arrested on a misdemeanor charge of racing on a highway.
At about 3:50 p.m. Thursday, an officer with the Special Operations Division was contacted reference a female subject allegedly passing a forged prescription at a business in the 4400 block of Buffalo Gap Road. The officer responded to assist and observed the female suspect take custody of prescriptions that were obtained fraudulently. The officer’s investigation revealed that the female subject had passed a forged prescription for two controlled substances. The subject was arrested and charged with felony fraud, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance (hydrocodone), and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance (phenesran).
At about 1 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Scott Hill observed a motorist driving at a high rate of speed and the motorist was contacted in the 1200 block of S. 14th Street. Officer Carye Adkins assisted on this call and contacted the male driver. Officer Adkins smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the driver and observed that the subject showed indicators of intoxication. An open container of alcoholic beverage was found inside the vehicle during this investigation. The driver was given field sobriety tests which he failed. The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated (with open container) and provided breath samples at the jail. Breath samples taken revealed the driver’s BAC to be 0.168 and 0.169.
