A man who tried to rob an Abilene woman at gunpoint fired a shot near her head Tuesday night, police said.

According to police, the man confronted her in an alley behind the Allsup's Convenience Store near the 2400 block of South 2nd Street.

After she refused to give him her purse, police said he fired a shot near her head.

The woman wasn't injured and was able to escape with her purse and get someone to call the police.

She described him as a thin, black male in his 20s who was wearing all black clothing.
