An Abilene woman is dead after she was struck by van on the 2500 block of South 1st.

Abilene Police said the accident happened around 9:55, Friday night.

After a preliminary investigation, police believe 55-year-old Mary Margaret Bowdon was crossing South 1st Street when she was hit by a van.

Bowdon was taken to Hendrick Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

The driver and passenger in the van were a Cross Plains couple in their 70's. They were not injured.

Police do not believe impaired driving was a factor in the accident. The accident is still under investigation.
