An Abilene man charged with the continuous sexual abuse of a child chose to plead guilty to a lesser charge instead of going to trial Monday.
John Schroth, 35, was indicted in May 2011. According to police, he allegedly sexually abused a child more than once between July 2009 and August 2010.
According to public records, Schroth was placed on deferred adjudication in 1999 for a 1998 sexual assault of a child charge.
Schroth pleaded guilty to indecency with a child Monday. He was sentenced to 10 years deferred probation and could face life in prison if he violates it.
