ABILENE, Texas -

A jury on Wednesday found an Abilene man guilty of injury to a child for reportedly breaking several of his baby daughter’s bones.

Richard Castellanos, 24, was arrested in 2010 for felony injury to a child after his daughter was taken to a local hospital with broken bones. His daughter was three months old at the time of the offense.

Castellanos faces a punishment range of two to 10 years for the third-degree felony offense. A judge will decide on Castellanos’ sentence within the next 30 to 45 days. A pre-sentencing investigation will be conducted.

Jury selection began Monday and witness testimony began Tuesday in the 42nd District Court in Taylor County.

The jury deliberated for about one-and-a-half hours before returning the verdict.

The defense argued that the child has a bone disorder that causes her bones to fracture easily and that Castellanos wasn’t trying to hurt her.
