A Taylor County judge sentenced an Abilene man to 20 years confinement in the state penitentiary Wednesday for shooting and injuring another man in 2011.

Pablo Moreno III, 29, was arrested in June 2011 in connection with a shooting near Tim's Bait Shop.

Police said they found 39-year-old Ricky Gomez with a gunshot wound to his chest. Gomez was able to recover.

After about an hour of deliberating, a Taylor County jury found Moreno guilty in mid-July of aggravated assault.

During Moreno's sentencing hearing Wednesday, the prosecution argued Moreno's lengthy criminal record, which includes one count of deadly conduct, should determine the length of his sentence. The prosecution recommended 25 to 30 years.

The judge sentenced Moreno to 20 years confinement in the state penitentiary. Moreno reserves the right to appeal his sentence.
