Abilene's Town & Country Drive-In Theatre seeking donations to stay open
Abilene's Town & Country Drive-In Theatre is seeking donations to stay open.
According to owner Glenda Thornton, the movie industry is doing away with 35mm film by the end of 2013. Currently, the drive-in has two 35mm projectors, which will have to converted to digital or else the drive in will have to close.
The price of the conversion is $165,000. The drive-in is located at North Mockingbird and Vogel Street.
To help raise funds, the drive -in is hosting a Movies and Mistletoe event starting at 6 p.m. this Saturday.
Customers can purchase their movie tickets and then shop local vendors. Santa Claus is also scheduled to make his appearance and there will be a jump castle set up for children.
For a $20 fee, vendors can purchase space to sell their goods.
Businesses can also set up tables and pass out information.
For all the details on the event, visit the Town & Country Drive-In Theatre Facebook page here.
Donations can also be made online. For more information on how to help save the drive in, click here.
