ABILENE, Texas -

Abilene’s sale tax rebate for January, which represents November sales, is down nearly 23 percent when compared to the same time last year, according to the city.

In a memo to City Manager Larry Gilley, Finance Director Mindy Patterson said the $2.9 million January rebate is about 2.2 percent below the city’s budget project for the current fiscal year.

For October through January, the city’s sales tax is 7.7 percent below last year and about 3.1 percent above the projected FY 13 budget amount, Patterson said.
