American Red Cross launches first ever multi-state disaster drill
Wildfires, thunderstorms and tornadoes, they're all common storms in Texas and Oklahoma.
Saturday morning the American Red Cross sent teams out to test their ability to assess damages to residential property after a disaster.
About 20 volunteers lined Sayles Boulevard from South First to South Eighth.
It was the first drill of its kind in this region. The pre-planned destruction was caused by a mock tornado outbreak.
The groups took notes and reported back to the Red Cross.
American Red Cross Disaster Field Specialist for Abilene Allen Brooks said the training is working.
"Not too long ago when Mississippi got hit, Red Cross sent out teams from all over the United States to Mississippi and to other parts there and they were able to go out and quickly assess the amount of damage that was done," Brooks said.
