Wylie High School is hosting the 19th Annual Big Country Marching Band Festival on Monday.
The festival will run from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. It will be held at the Wylie High School Stadium on 4502 Antilley Road. Tickets cost $3.
The festival aims to help local bands practice before the upcoming important University Interscholastic League band competition.
"Students get a real feel for it," Wylie High Band conductor Mike Lunney said. "UIL competition is totally different from football halftime. I think this competition does a lot to help them out in contest preparation."
There will be 21 bands participating. The contest is open to all classifications. It is also a fundraiser for the Wylie Band Boosters.
The judges for the festival will be Rocky Harris, Mack Bibb, and Jim Bode.
"That Wylie Band" members and parents run and organize the entire festival.
At the end of the festival, there will be a special exhibition by the McMurry University Band.
The bands participating are:
Class A: Eldorado, Throckmorton, Quanah, Spur, Hamlin, Rotan,Jayton, Roscoe, Anson
Class AA: Hawley, Colorado City, Merkel, Cisco, Bellinger, Jim Ned, Eastland
Class AAA: Sweetwater, Snyder, Wylie
Class AAAAA: San Angelo Central, Cooper High, Abilene High
