Blue Bell Ice Cream showed off a brand new flavor for National Ice Cream Month on KTXS This Morning.
Branch Manager Faron Bell introduced Abilene to "Summer Strawberry Pie." Blue Bell Creameries describes the flavor as, "a superbly luscious strawberry ice cream." It features real bits of strawberries, pie crust pieces, and whipped topping swirl.
Strawberry ice cream has a long history in the United States. According to tradition, first lady Dolley Madison first heard of a marvelous new dessert sensation and traveled to Wilmington, Delaware to taste it. After trying it, she ordered it to be served at her husband James Madison's second inaugural ball in 1813. After that, all of Dolley Madison's parties and balls were known for their strawberry ice cream centerpieces.
Blue Bell has multiple kinds of strawberry ice cream. Besides Summer Strawberry Pie, they also make Strawberry Banana Pound Cake, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Strawberry Cheesecake, Summer Berries, and just regular Strawberry ice cream.
Bell also spoke about "Christmas Cookies In July," a popular flavor only available for a limited time.
In addition to July being National Ice Cream Month, the third Sunday of July is always National Ice Cream Day. This year it falls on July 15.
