A Brownwood man is in custody after allegedly stabbing his estranged wife multiple times.

Brownwood police said Israel Rivera was waiting at an apartment complex Tuesday night in the 1600 block of Melwood for the victim.

When she arrived, Rivera stabbed her several times in the upper body, as she was unloading groceries.

The woman was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released.

Rivera was arrested early Wednesday morning after police were able to track down his cell phone location.

Officers said he had a knife in his pocket.
