Business affected by contruction on I-20
Heading East on Interstate 20, it's almost impossible to figure out how to get to the Wendy's Restaurant tucked away off State Highway 351.
Construction on the frontage roads in the area has caused big problems for the business.
"When you get off at 288 and come down 351, you can't see us at all. You don't know where we're at. We have one little sign. If you just happen to see that and make that turn you just have to look and you'll see us in the background," said Ashleigh Templin, Manager at Wendy's.
She says since construction began, sales have been down by double digits, and they've had to cut employee hours.
She says most people don't want to bother getting off the interstate because it's hard to get to.
"Most travelers don't want to get off the highway when they see the whole place is torn up in this area," said Templin.
One driver said he almost didn't stop because he couldn't find it.
Darah Waldrip of TxDOT said they are trying to communicate with businesses in the affected area.
"We know it's never easy for drivers or those along construction routes," said Waldrip.
She said they are doing what they can to help businesses with solutions during the process.
Templin is hoping Wendy's can stay afloat for the two-year process.
"It is sad because we used to do so well... we're still here, just waiting for people to come in," said Templin.
Other businesses in the area didn't have a comment about the construction.
