A child playing with a lighter started a house on fire Wednesday afternoon in Abilene.

Firefighters were called to the 3600 block of Sherry Lane just after 4 p.m.

A woman and three children escaped the home without injury, but a puppy died in the fire and they're still searching for the family cat.

One of the children admitted to setting something on fire near a bunkbed.

Damage to the home is estimated to be around $20,000, and there is also damage to the siding on a house next door.
