DA: Grand jury won't review DPS shooting this year
A South Texas district attorney said he doubted that a grand jury will hear evidence this year from last month's fatal shooting from a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.
A DPS trooper opened fire from a helicopter on a fleeing pickup truck with a covered load in the bed that turned out to be Guatemalan immigrants. Two of the immigrants were killed and another was wounded.
Hidalgo County District Attorney Rene Guerra tells The Monitor of McAllen he doesn't know what progress has been made in the Texas Rangers investigation of the Oct. 25 incident.
He said he won't present the case to a grand jury until that investigation is finished. He doesn't expect a presentment until after the holidays.
