Abilene canines will have to make other plans to cool off at the end of the summer.

For the past eight years dogs and their owners have been able to celebrate the end of the season at the city of Abilene's Rose Park pool.

Doggie "splash day" is usually held the last day the pool is open for the summer. However, due to a lack of staffing and funding, the city has had to cancel this year's splash day.

There's no word on whether doggie splash day will return for 2013.
