Dr. Charles Anderson, OB/GYN, visited KTXS on Thursday morning and shared some women's health tips.
Anderson spoke about one of the most popular subjects he discusses with his patients: contraceptives.
"I think the most important thing is to educate, especially our young women, about the new methods of contraceptives," Anderson said. "We have some new methods that work. They're very effective."
Anderson said that while traditional birth control pills still work, mostly without any problems, many women find it hard to remember taking them every day.
A new method that's growing in popularity is the Implanon or Nexplanon insert.
"This is a little plastic tube or capsule that goes in your arm," Anderson said. "It's really soft and it lasts three years. It's very effective and not too expensive."
Anderson also addressed one of the major concerns his patients have about birth control options these days.
"They want something that works 100% of the time, and make sure it doesn't fail," Anderson said. "They want to make sure it's easy so they don't have to worry about it every day."
