ABILENE, Texas -

Challenger Ricky Bishop defeated incumbent Taylor County Sheriff Les Bruce in the GOP primary election Tuesday, unofficial but complete returns showed.

Bishop captured 5,947 votes (53 percent), while Bruce garnered 5,282 votes (47 percent), according to election totals.

Meanwhile, Mike McAuliffe handily upended Lydia Long, grabbing 5,687 votes (60 percent). Long received 3,744 votes (40 percent).
