A former editor of the Abilene Reporter-News has died.

Dick Tarpley retired as editor in 1986.

Tarpley began working at the paper in 1946 and was associated with the Reporter-News for more than 50 years.  He continued to write a weekly column after he retired as editor.

Funeral services for Tarpley are pending at the Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Richard "Dick" Tarpley was 92.
