Callahan County businessman Douglas Wayne Spurrier has been identified as the man who was hit and killed by a train early Saturday morning.
Authorities have ruled out foul play in the death of the 34-year-old Spurrier, said Baird City Marshal Bobby Beard. However, Beard said, it remained unclear whether Spurrier's death was accidental or a suicide. Beard said officials are still waiting on the report from Dallas Medical Examiner's Office.
According to the Callahan County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened at about 5 a.m. Saturday. Officials have said Spurrier was lying on the tracks behind the train depot in Baird ? about 20 miles east of Abilene ? when he was hit.
A previous version of the story indicated Spurrier was a co-owner of Smith Pipe. That was incorrect. KTXS regrets the error.
