Twelve students and one professor from Hardin-Simmons University are stuck in Washington D.C. after flight cancellations due to Sandy.
The group was attending the Model United Nations Conference in the Capitol last week, representing the Philippines. The conference ended Sunday but the student's flight back to Texas was scheduled for Monday.
Sunday afternoon, the call came from the airlines that their flight was cancelled due to the incoming severe weather from Sandy.
We reached out today to Rebecca Loney, one of the stranded HSU students, who describes the scariest moment from Monday night, when the weather was worst at their hotel.
"We looked outside and there was quite a bit of thunder and lightning going on and a lot of wind blowing, we weren't sure if we were going to keep power", Loney says.
The brunt of the bad weather has moved away from the Washington D.C. area, and it looks as though the group will get to fly back Wednesday.
Here closer to home, many turned to social media to provide updates from family members affected by the storm or well wishes.
