KTXS/Reporter-News hosting runoff debate for Taylor County Sheriff on Wednesday
KTXS and the Abilene Reporter-News is hosting a debate Wednesday between the two candidates for Taylor County Sheriff. Incumbent Les Bruce only received 49 percent of the vote during primaries, which means he will face challenger Ricky Bishop in runoff elections on July 31.
Candidates will be asked a variety of questions by KTXS anchor George Levesque and Sarah Kleiner Varble of the Abilene Reporter-News.
One thing that will come up during the debate is the drug test scandal. Before Art Casarez came in last place in the primary election, knocking him out of the race he challenged Bruce to take a drug test. Bruce refused, but said he has never done drugs. Bishop, however, took a drug test prior to the allegation.
This is Bishop's first time running for sheriff. He currently serves as a deputy for Taylor County.
The debate will be taped Tuesday evening and will air on KTXS at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18.
